Lingfield Pond

We are making Lingfield even better!

The pond is looking wonderful and a clean-up party consisting of volunteers and some local councillors have recently smartened up the road signs, and then brightened things up over the weekend by repainting the black metal pavement bollards outside Boots and Bobby’s Convenience Store.

That’s not all.  We have secured an EU grant designed to assist our village overcome the challenges posed by the pandemic and to encourage people to better enjoy their local environment and shops.

The grant will provide a superb array of flower planters, baskets and bunting, which will complement those annually provided by the Parish Council. A contract has been agreed with CJS, a long-established company with experience in such displays and you will see the flowers arrive in the next couple of weeks. Huge thanks must go to Yvonne Morland, of Tandridge District Council, for successfully driving this application and negotiating the contract.

I also sought your views recently about St Peter’s Cross & The Cage. After the excellent renovation of the pond in the spring, we hope to enhance this Grade I historic monument with a small circle of recessed lights in the pavement that will provide subtle low wattage illumination in the evenings.

We will be seeking grants from the Lottery and other benefactors to help fund this lighting. Public opinion is very important to us on this matter.  We will therefore be holding a consultation in the village on Saturday, 10th July from 11am till 2pm. Please look out for the trestle tables outside the Cage, Co-op and Boots, and let us know your views. If you are unable to come along and wish to contact us please email me at lingfieldevents@gmail.com

And finally…. Christmas. We have a Road Closure for the High Street on Saturday 4th December, when we can enjoy a great family afternoon in the village, with funfair, stalls, Father Christmas, and carol singers.

I know…it’s a bit early for Christmas but there are in fact only 164 days to go! We are eager to find volunteers to help with the planning and organisation: if you can help, please let me know on lingfieldevents@gmail.com.

Thanks to everyone for your support. Let’s make Lingfield the village that everyone chooses to visit and spend money in – or just to enjoy the much-improved village environment.

Best wishes  Clive Jecks

Special thanks to Ian Tomsett for the wonderful picture of the new pond!
